Schumann’s “Scenes from Goethe’s Faust” has been labelled the composer’s “magnum opus”. Schumann never saw all three parts of the work performed in the same concert, or published together. The piece has been deemed among Schumann’s most moving works and the final scenes contain some of his best choral writing. Under conductor Daniel Harding, the LSO and LSC are joined by baritone Christian Gerhaher in the title role in what many regard as a neglected masterwork. This eagerly anticipated performance will be at the Barbican on Sunday, 20th March 2016.
