Gianandrea Noseda opened the London Symphony Orchestra’s 2016-2017 season with Verdi’s monumental Requiem at the Barbican, with two London performances. The same forces now appear in New York in Lincoln Centre’s David Geffen Hall for a matinee at 3.00 pm on Sunday, 30th October.
A cast list of outstanding Italian opera stars has been assembled for the performances both in London and New York.
Erika Grimaldi (soprano)
Daniela Barcellona (mezzo-soprano)
Francesco Meli (tenor)
Michele Pertusi (baritone)
After the first performance, Brahms said, “Only a genius could write something like this.” Considered by many to be an oratorio verging in opera, it is probably the most frequently performed major choral work composed since the compilation of Mozart’s Requiem.
