New York, New York – so good they named it twice. If you can make it there, you’re gonna make it anywhere! That’s what the two sisters in Bernstein’s musical tribute to the Big Apple, “Wonderful Town” are looking for.
“Wonderful Town” is not as well known as it should be. It is an uplifting, positive work that garnered 5 Tony Awards in 1952 when it premiered. If you want to feel those little town blues melting away at this time of year, this could be the perfect concert.
This concert version of the musical dedicated to the city that never sleeps (with soloists Danielle de Niese, Nathan Gunn and Duncan Rock) is part of the LSO’s programme of concerts at the Barbican “About Half Six Fix”. It starts at 6.30 pm and lasts for one hour without an interval with an introduction by the LSO’s principal conductor, Simon Rattle.
