The Chorus’s newly-appointed President, Sir Simon Rattle, will be conducting a new community and children’s opera by the late Sir Peter Maxwell Davies, “The Hogboon” on Sunday, 26th June at the Barbican. The opera is based on a local goblin myth from Orkney.
This will be the world premiere of an LSO commission. The LSO Discovery Choirs will be singing alongside the LSC in this concert, which will also feature musicians from the Guildhall School.
Simon Rattle has a strong belief that classical music should be inclusive, and has been a leading advocate for contemporary composers throughout his career. He has devised this concert, which also includes Berlioz’s “Symphonie Fantastique”, specifically to involve the various forces, which typifies his commitment to music education and outreach to new audiences.
This world premiere was the last composition completed by Peter Maxwell Davies before he died earlier this year, and the LSC consider it a great privilege to have been entrusted with its first performance. Tickets are on sale at the Barbican box office.
