The LSC and the Verdi Requiem

By: Malcolm Taylor

September 13, 2016

Gianandrea Noseda opens the London Symphony Orchestra’s 2016-2017 season with Verdi’s monumental Requiem at the Barbican, with performances on Sunday, 18th September and Tuesday, 20th September. A cast list of outstanding Italian opera stars has been assembled for the performances in London, which will be repeated in New York Sunday, 30th October at the David Geffen Hall in the Lincoln Center.

After the first performance, Brahms said, “Only a genius could write something like this.” Considered by many to be an oratorio verging on opera, it is probably the most frequently performed major choral work composed since the compilation of Mozart’s Requiem.

The LSC has a long history with this choral masterpiece from its earliest days: click here to read more about this.
